—My philosophy is a gentle one.
Gentle Tarot records my learning journey in the world of tarot reading, along with observations and experiences I’ve had with my decks.
Tarot reading is a natural transition from my life-long interest in astrology; I’ve always been drawn to the complexities in people. Like astrology, a single tarot deck offers a wealth of insight into the wonderful, messy and complicated layers that make up the human condition. I’ve owned a tarot deck since I was fourteen, but I’ve only recently began to study it proper.
I believe that a good tarot reading comes from a meeting of intuition and energy. Have you ever sensed tension in the air, so thick you can cut it with a knife? Or felt the joyfulness of someone’s presence, even as they’re walking towards you? Energy is a real, tangible thing that most of us recognise, but rarely acknowledge. When married with intuition, the combination can produce surprisingly accurate tarot readings.
My approach to tarot reading is a gentle, sensible one for good reason. I’ve suffered from a rather crippling social anxiety for a good part of my life. As dramatic as it sounds, I was mortified by my own existence, and I couldn’t even explain why. That led to some serious Nine of Swords issues.
Becoming at peace with myself took years of conscious study and cultivation, and is something I will work on my whole life. Applying the wisdom of zen to my own life has taught me that compassion, detachment and kindness can go a long way in self-healing.
And now, tarot reading is part of that journey. I’m excited. There’s a lot to learn.
In case you’re wondering, I use the melancholic Sarah Hudes deck, and in more recent times, have started dabbling with the more classic Smith-Waite. If you’d like a reading, let me know.
On a somewhat related note, I’m a huge pop culture nerd. So this blog will contain celebrity readings and analyses from time to time.
